Crappie are on fire

The recent rain we received did little to muddy the river but wow did it bring the crappie to their winter haunts. The crappie stage in a few pools/areas for the winter to prepare for the spawn. Either that or where the bait is balled up or both. But it’s on now. Nearly every cast most of the time today and yesterday evening. I was fishing small 1/32 oz jigs under a float on an ultra light rod or under a thing-a-mabobber on the fly rod. There’s a certain pattern that has finally kicked off into high gear and should remain pretty constant most of the winter just as long as the river doesn’t freeze up. But that doesn’t look too likely anytime soon. Some bigger predators should be figuring out the crappie are there too. Great fishing for a beginner, child or well experienced fisherman.
